Sports at Immaculate

Sporting activities at Immaculate Conception High School are among the top priorities for campus life. The school boasts all the components necessary to produce outstanding championship athletes, starting with the exceptional sports facilities. The school also retains some of the top coaches in the island.

These factors, combined with a comprehensive sports programme, ensure the winning tradition through the years. A tradition, that maintains the school at the top in girls Competitions Island wide. The numerous records and the overwhelming collection of championship team and individual trophies and medals, are testaments of the school' consistency for outstanding athletic performances.

Our Sports Include:

• Athletic

  The success of the Athletics club can be measured by the school's retention of the corporate area title for the past five years. In the 2001 Corporate Area National Gibson Relays, the team placed first. Champs 2001 was equally successful as the team showed its true potential by placing first in the Corporate area and fifth overall.

• Badminton

  In the last badminton finals, the Immaculate Conception High School placed second in the region and third islandwide.

• Gymnastics

  The gymnastics programme at Immaculate Conception High School commenced in 1978. The participants are grouped into categories dependent on whether they are at Beginner, Intermediate or Advance stage. The various groups, which are kept small for individualized attention, have sessions once per week. The groups perform regularly on a wide variety of shows.

• Karate

  Strength. Skill. Self-defense. Discipline. Karate is one of the world's best-known martial arts. Originating in Okinawa, Japan, this ancient art has spread across the globe, reaching as far as the Western hemisphere and to the students of Jamaica's Immaculate Conception High School. The students, in accordance with the true nature of Karate (which means 'empty hand'), learn to defend themselves without the use of weapons, and so can physically defend themselves in any situation.

  At ICHS, we practice the Shotokan style of Karate, one of the most popular and traditional styles of Karate, which is the style utilized by many international tournaments. The club members participate in various tournaments, whether national, regional or international, and its students have a history of excellent performances. In the Karate club, we as a group strive for excellence, personal development, and to enjoy the journey towards discovering a new, stronger side to ourselves.

  The ICHS Karatekas (students of Karate) meet every Tuesday and Friday afternoon to participate in this worthwhile endeavor. Students of all ages are welcome to join the club, whether to develop strength, discipline, to master this ancient art, or simply out of curiosity. Anybody can join!

• Lawn Tennis

  The Immaculate Conception High School has set a record in the National Schools Tennis Championship by being the first school to win the championship over six(6) consecutive years. We have been ranked the number one (1) school in tennis.

• Swimming

  Swimming is thought by many to be the sport for which Immaculate High School is most renowned. An annual event on the school's calendar is the four (4) major schools swim meet. More often than not, the Immaculate Conception High School's Swim Team wins all four. The team's enviable collection of championship trophies and numerous medals attest to their achievements.

• Table Tennis

  Table Tennis is another sport in which the Immaculate Conception High School is always a dominant force. The school has been national champions and is always in the finals.
